Foxie, who had only just learned to read, was spotted by her parents holding the books very close to her face. Foxie loved reading, but was having trouble seeing the words except for when she focused really hard and held the pages up close. She didn’t know why this was the case, but she didn’t care much as she was just happy she could read all on her own.

One day, Foxie’s father stopped her mid-story and asked her, “Foxie, can you see the words if you hold the paper further away from your face?”

Foxie shook her head no and went back to reading. Her father suggested that they go to their eye doctor to see if her eyes were okay. This made Foxie very nervous because she usually hated doctor’s offices. Without her input, Foxie’s dad scheduled her an appointment and when the appointment day came they got in the car and went together. Foxie’s dad tried to reassure Foxie that the eye doctor is nothing to be afraid of, but it didn’t help her anxiety very much.

As the doctor did the eye exam, Foxie began to calm down because the doctor was very nice. She then was told the news she was afraid of hearing; Foxie needed glasses. Foxie was scared of getting glasses because she wondered what her friends would think or say about her. Foxie felt like she might get called names or be bullied for having glasses. But her father and the doctor reassured Foxie that she would still be herself with glasses, and she could pick a pair that she thought were pretty. Her dad even said that if any other kids give her a hard time about the glasses that he would make them stop being rude.

So, Foxie went to the store part of the eye doctor building and picked herself out the prettiest, blue glasses for her to wear. When she put them on after they came in with her prescription in them a week later, she looked in the mirror and smiled. She felt pretty in her new glasses. Then, she picked up a book, and was able to read it much easier. Foxie even went to the neighborhood park to show off her stylish new glasses to her best friend, Kittie. To Foxie’s surprise, Kittie loved Foxie’s glasses! The two girls spent the entire afternoon reading stories together in the park and having a good time.

THE END.
